Regular Math Tutor
Anyone can “tutor”, including high school students and those without years of experience.
Lots of hours of tutoring does not mean you’re getting quality tutoring. Expertise matters!
Ideal for students who have a relatively stable math foundation already and need minor “spot-treatment” for concepts clarification and maintaining status quo on homework and tests.
Regular “tutors” may not have the specific know-how to take a child who is already terrified, stressed and severely struggling with math to the next level.
The tutor may inadvertently induce more stress by assigning MORE homework, in hopes that it will help the child learn better. This is, however not the case. The child suffers more stress and only harms the child more.
Finding just a “regular” tutor is often a “quick-fix” / “band-aid” solution to help ease parents’ fears, guilt and stress. If the child is falling several years behind, a more tactical approach is necessary.
When finding a qualified and experienced tutor with proven results, it is often a hit-and-miss adventure. It often takes several tries. Usually, to give the “tutor” the benefit of the doubt, lots of time and money would be invested to see if the tutor can deliver the results you expect.
